James H. Sabry, M.D., Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
James H. Sabry, M.D., Ph.D. is President and Chief Executive Officer of Arête Therapeutics and brings more than 20 years of drug discovery management and clinical expertise to the company. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors and former CEO of Cytokinetics, a company he co-founded in August 1997. Prior to co-founding Cytokinetics, Dr. Sabry held faculty positions at the University of California, San Francisco and Harvard Medical School. He serves on the Board of Directors of HopeLab, a not-for-profit organization developing innovative technologies for the management of cancer, obesity and other diseases, is a member of Dean’s Council of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and serves on the advisory boards of numerous organizations including the California Institute of Quantitative Biosciences. Dr. Sabry received an M.D. from Queen’s University and a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of California, San Francisco.

Randall Whitcomb, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer
Randall Whitcomb, M.D. joined Arête Therapeutics in September 2007, bringing over 20 years of medical and drug development experience. Prior to Arête, Dr. Whitcomb was Founder and Chief Medical Officer for Quatrx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately-held, drug development company focused on endocrine, metabolic and cardiovascular therapeutic areas. Formerly, he held various management positions with Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research, Inc., ultimately serving as Vice President of Drug Development with particular responsibility for the development and approval of products for women’s health care and diabetes. After their merger with Pfizer, Inc., Dr. Whitcomb was Vice President of Global Project Management for Pfizer Global Research and Development. Previously, he was on the faculty of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He received his B.A. degree from Tabor College and his M.D. degree from the University of Kansas.

D. Euan MacIntyre, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, Drug Discovery
D. Euan MacIntyre, Ph.D. is Senior Vice President of drug discovery for Arête Therapeutics. He comes to Arête after more than 22 years with Merck Research Laboratories, where he held positions of escalating importance, most recently as Vice President of Pharmacology. Under his leadership, Dr. MacIntyre’s team identified and validated several compounds now commercially available or in clinical trials for a variety of diseases and conditions including emesis, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, pain, urinary incontinence and immuno-inflammatory disorders. In addition to his experience in discovery and development, Dr. MacIntyre evaluated numerous in-licensing candidates and served as a member of several joint research committees for Merck’s joint ventures and collaborations. Dr. MacIntyre received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Experimental Pathology from the University of Cambridge. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Cambridge and at Harvard Medical School before joining the faculty at his alma mater, the University of Glasgow. He holds several patents, is the author of approximately 150 peer-reviewed publications, and has presented at numerous national and international symposia.
