Over the past decade, numerous publications from Arête’s founder Prof. Bruce Hammock and his academic colleagues have reported on the efficacy of s-EH inhibitors in various models of hypertension. These molecules have demonstrated that s-EH inhibitors have an ability to lower elevated blood pressure, have a proven protective effect on the kidney, heart and brain, and possess anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, published research indicates that s-EH inhibitors may be optimized to prevent atherosclerotic plaque rupture, and to treat diabetic nephropathy, erectile dysfunction, and eye and skin diseases.
Arête is working on novel and diverse chemical classes of s-EH inhibitors and evaluating their utility as ‘anti-hypertensive plus’ agents.
Arête initiated a phase 1 clinical trial for a first-in-class anti-hypertensive compound AR9281 in October 2007. For more information on Arête’s development-stage compounds, please click here.
